Addressing climate change and more
Climate change is a real and serious issue and Canada’s energy industry is best positioned to help meet this global challenge. The global collective challenge is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while also meeting growing demand for affordable and reliable energy.
Canada’s environmental standards are among the highest in the world and the industry continues to invest in technologies to improve environmental performance and drive down emissions. According to Statistics Canada, nearly half of all money spent by Canadian businesses on environmental protection was contributed by the natural gas and oil industry.
In Canada’s oil sands, the per-barrel emissions for oil produced in Canada’s oil sands decreased by 32 per cent since 1990 due to innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
Our growing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry is going to produce the world’s cleanest LNG. Exporting our clean, affordable LNG to countries in Asia to replace coal-fired power is the single greatest contribution Canada can make in the fight against global emissions.
